Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

Paper Boat Valentine

In 1986 Ted Kooser wrote a poem for Valentine's Day and sent it to fifty women friends. This began an annual tradition that continued for the next twenty-one years. Each a new poem was printed on a postcards and mailed to a recipient list that eventually grew to more that 2,500 females across the USA. Now they are contained in little book, one of my favorites simply titled, Valentines, that I discovered in 2009 while we were in a bookstore in Pacific Grove near Monterey, California, while we were on our winter vacation. I'm not sure which poem is my favorite; I like all of them.

THIS PAPER BOAT

Carefully placed upon the future,
it tips from the breeze and skims aways,
frail thing of words, this valentine,
so far to sail. And if you find it
caught in the reeds, its message blurred,
the thought that you are holding it
a moment is enough for me.

by Ted Kooser, U.S. Poet Laureate, 2004-2006

I so love this season of candy hearts and chocolate goodies, perfume and pretty nighties and all things fun, but I'm not so great at making a paper boat, but I gave it my best try. Because it didn't turn out well, I thought I would over-shadow it with the lovely red tulips and little boxes of hearts.

I hope you are enjoying this season too.

Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol

P.S. We gave all three pooches a bath this morning. Mr. Fun does the bathing and I do the blow-dry. That injected our morning with lots of excitement. They get wild and crazy once they are clean and dry.

P.P.S. This evening I addressed some Valentine cards. If I have my act together I might just get this batch of cards sent to the Post Master in Valentine, Nebraska, so they can be postmarked from there. How fun is that!

P.P.P.S. If I can find a copy of 1001 Ways to be Romantic, I'm going to get a copy and give it to Mr. Fun on Valentine's Day. Our local bookstore has already sold all their copies. It contains lots of fun ideas in it.
