Checkmate at Santiago chess club

Each day in the main square of Plaza de Armas, various members of the Santiago chess club meet for a few games. We have crossed the square a few times and always see plenty of games in action.

In today's shot it looks like a classic match of youth v experience although it is hard to detect from the facial expressions who has the edge. They would both make great poker players.

We have thoroughly enjoyed our week in Santiago and would recommend the city for a visit to anyone. The Chilean people are so friendly.

Tomorrow we head to the dizzy heights of La Paz in Bolivia where the altitude at the airport alone is 4,100 metres. My asthma inhaler will be right by my side.

As we are travelling through the wilds of south western Bolivia the blog may be out of action for a week or so but I will then catch up with some great shots as a reward for your patience.
