Island Drizzle

A gie dreich day, even by Shetland standards, although it wasn't cold and there was little wind.

His Lordship has not an ounce of Viking blood coursing through his veins, and is seemingly immune to the charms of drizzle and mist accentuating the bleakness of these northern isles, preferring the moist humid heat of countries like Malaysia which I find uncomfortable.
I regret to say he moaned a little lot.

To me the greyness and dampness are part and parcel of spending time up here in the middle of winter, and lends an authenticity to the stark stone buildings. I also know that when the sun shines and the sea is blue we have the other face of Shetland with a different kind of beauty.

After a bracing tramp round the headland in Lerwick, we took the bus to Scalloway, the second bigest town in Shetland and found it in the line of the westerly wind bringing rain and low mist in equal measure.
We found the new museum not yet open and after a quick walk round the environs of the castle, and having decided that it was too futile to try and see any good views, we had a coffee in a little cafe at the harbour.

This blip is of the rather atmospheric view of Scalloway castle through the raindrops on the window.
It may be that you can't quite make out the castle through the rain, so you will have to take my word for it, because I know it is there towards the back!

Later, lewis417 (Life At 60 degrees), one of the few Shetland blippers, popped by our B&B to say hello.
There was a little camera gefinger poking, but not too much. It's always good to meet a fellow blipper with whom to share our eccentricities, and it makes looking at their photos so much more personal.
Lovely to meet you 'Lewis'.
