eyes finally open

cobbs engine house

this was the picture i wanted to take yesterday, but it involved quite a walk in almost complete darkness. tonight however, this other half came along to hold my hand, and i took a torch, which turned out to be quite handy!

i took about twenty shots, mostly lay on the frozen solid grass, peering through the view finder, with the tripod down super low. some of the other shots had better composition, but wernt as well focused as this one. the autofocus doesnt work in the pitch darkness, and the camera has got much better "eyes" than me, so i couldnt do it either!

i experimented with differnt settings and with the other half moving the torch around the buildings so it wasnt just a silhouette. im pretty pleased with it anyway, and chuffed we managed the walk up in the cold and dark.

cobbs engine house, otherwise known as windmill end pumping station, is near darby end, netherton, just outside dudley. there is a vast network of canals here and in the summer there is a huge narrowboat festival which i will be taking the camera to this year for sure.
