Turning Point

Sign of the Times

I had to go to Fired Earth in Perth. There is a 25% off sale just now and I've got three rooms to tile.

It occurred to me that I was walking through a ghost town. I stopped and turned around to discover, that I was completely alone in St John Street. People are usually bustling about here, especially at lunchtime.

Where was everyone?

I began to understand when I noticed the boarded-up shops, 'To Let' signs, and windows advertising that either 'Everything Must Go' or '70% Reductions'. There wasn't so much as a smoker standing outside any of the pubs around the city hall.

I used to shop in Perth for clothes until I threw caution to the wind and ditched the 'Laura Ashley look' for something sharper (some will disagree). That was a few years ago. It seems that everyone else has done the same. I should send this picture to the Perth Advertiser in case they haven't noticed either.

Shortly, my daughter is qualifying as a corporate lawyer. Her supervisor mentioned that submissiveness is all he wishes for in his next trainee - and someone who doesn't shout. I had to laugh, as will anyone who knows her - Goan yer sel Fizz!
