Sark

Monday
Had a glorious day on Sark today. We took the 10.30 boat from St. Peter Port - we were afraid at one point we wouldnt be able to go as we couldnt find anywhere to park, but Roger stopped and asked at the ticket office, and for 3 pounds they gave him a pass to park in the port-reserved spots. For those that arent familiar with Sark, there is no motorised traffic on the island, apart from tractors. So the modes of transport are bikes or horse and cart. We rented bikes and cycled down to Little Sark, across La Coupee, a narrow isthmus, just wide enough for the narrow lane, with 300 ft drops either side. This view is taken just before La Coupee. The land you see in the background is part of Guernsey. We stopped a couple of times and followed paths to the cliffs to see more amazing scenery. We had a lovely lunch outside in a garden of a pub, then cycled back to Great Sark and went to the gardens of La Seigneurie which until the constitutional reforms of 2007 was the home to the Seigneur (Dame in the case of a woman), the feudal head of the government of the island. The gardens were glorious - a riot of color. We did a bit more cycling around then headed back for the boat.

In the evening we had dinner at a restaurant overlooking Vazon Bay. We decided to eat outside on the rooftop, to get a view of the setting sun. However, as the sun went down it got pretty cold, and after a while the waiters brought us out blankets. I must say I've never eaten at a restaurant wrapped in a blanket before! However, the sunset was worth it.
