From Across the Pond...

Emerging

Today is Sunday, the first time I've gotten out of bed since Thursday, when I caught some kind of bug and ended up with a heinous three-day fever. I haven't been sick with any kind of flu symptoms in a few years, so I guess I had it coming (I've heard new volunteers almost always get knocked around a bit by the local flora). The worst thing about having a fever, I think, is that it shuts off all the parts of your brain you might put to good use during a three day vacation...despite copious amounts of aspirin and Gatorade, I couldn't get a single thing done.

BUT, today I felt great, and since I'd followed the old mantra and starved the hell out of that fever, my new housemate Vincent (Frenchman) and I went down to the waterfront to eat a good meal and watch Batman dish out some morally-complex justice. As is often the case in Cape Town on the weekend, we waited a long while for a late train to arrive, but I liked the lighting.
