Every photo tells a story

Comic book fish.

I spotted this stylised version of a fish when I was driving past this church, about 10 years ago. I only saw it fleetingly, but was determined to come back, preferably armed with a camera, sporting a telephoto lens. Today was the day. This is St. Oswald's church, at Preesall, which is next door to Knot-End -on Sea. A ferry runs from here to Fleetwood during the summer, which I think you might be able to use your bus pass on. The reason it has taken me so long to re-visit, is because Knot-End is at the end of a cul-de-sac. A 10 mile one. I think it was worth it. When I first saw this rather odd looking weather vane, it reminded me of the sort of fish that Korky the cat of Dandy fame, used to fish for with a bent pin, and a worm for bait. I would think that the designer must have had a sense of humour, and also the kind benefactor. We so seldom look up, and whatever your view on religion, I always thing of Oscar Wilde's comment about us all being in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. I suppose in the past, these villages would have depended on the sea for a lot of the sustenance they needed. Perhaps that's why we see this splendidly corpulent fishy.
