Guard Dog

Mrs jml found a Victoria sponge in the freezer this morning. It had been intended for a Christmas-time trifle which never got made, and it was well past its date. So it was cut up for the birds.

Molly was indignant. "This cake is my cake", she told us. Tough cookie, Molly - the whole lot went onto the bird-table.

But for the next hour, no birds got anywhere near it. Molly stood guard at the spot and chased anyone away if they showed any interest in eating cake!

The birds only got what was rightfully theirs when Molly gave up and went to rummage in the composter instead.
