Australia Day

Today is Australia's official national day and celebrates the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788 and hence the founding of 'modern Australia'. It is a controversial day and is known as invasion day by many Aboriginals. Today there was a demonstration by Aboriginal activists outside Parliament whereby both the PM and leader of the opposition were 'ruffled' by activists (I haven't seen the news properly and don't know what happened exactly). There were huge celebrations in 1988 commemorating the 200 years since white mans arrival. I've spent the day watch Australia thrash India in the cricket and am looking forward to the Nadal/Federer grand slam match in about 10 minutes. Tomorrow may be my last day at work for a while unless a government official pulls a cat out of a hat at the 11th hour (see yesterday's blip).
