Leda and the swan
There is/are a number of swans on the lake behind the house. They've been there for years unless some die and get replaced - I'm not good at sswan differentiation. There's even a local association for the protection of swans' eggs.
They made me think of WB Yeats' poem
A sudden blow: the great wings beating still
Above the staggering girl, her thighs caressed
By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill,
He holds her helpless breast upon his breast.
How can those terrified vague fingers push
The feathered glory from her loosening thighs?
And how can body, laid in that white rush,
But feel the strange heart beating where it lies?
I always did think it must have been rather unpleasant to be raped by a swan.
