Time
I had just 30 minutes today in which to find a blip subject. I went to St Leonard's Church in Middleton. This grade one listed building dates from 1524 but a church has stood on the site for more than 900 years. As soon as I saw the sundial, I knew that would be today's subject. It is patently a comparatively recent addition to the building. Sadly, it wasn't working today.
Until the advent of digital clocks, time was a picture rather than a number - of moving shadows, hands or characters. Time progresses constantly but seems to move variably. As we get older, it moves faster. As our team are two goals ahead with ten minutes to go, it moves glacially slowly. As the globe warms, the glaciers move faster. As change approaches in our lives, some aspects race along, others drag.
And for me, today, time stood still. My watch stopped. Its battery needs replacing or at least I hope that's the problem. So, for today, my phone was my watch.
