Best kept sporting secret..
This plaque is impossible to find unless you are led to it. It's high up on the side of the clubhouse at the West of Scotland cricket club in Partick, in the west end of Glasgow.
Yet such an important piece of sporting history happened here that it should really be on the city's tourist trail, especially given our country's obsession with football.
I can't help thinking that if this had happened in Brazil, or the United States, tens of thousands of tourists would be flocking to it every year, all contributing to the economy. Seems like we are missing a trick.
For the record, more than 4000 people came to see the game, they each paid one shilling, the score was 0-0, and the entire Scottish team was made up of players from Queens Park.
Nowadays the atmosphere is more sedate. Cricket is played during the summer months, the clubhouse sells a decent pint and it's a rather civilised way to spend an afternoon.
There is also a nice tip of the hat to the origins of football. On Saturday mornings, parents bring their children along to play and learn the basics of the game.
