The Gate
A cold, wet and windy day in Carrbrook. The only break in the rain came when darkness had descended. I needed to get out for a walk. Weighed down by multiple layers, I ventured out into the bitterly cold evening.
I went along the old school lane. It was dark but the street lamps were working. It still felt a bit spooky. My thoughts turned to a Spanish assignment I had just done. I had to tell a local fable to the class. I had no idea what subject to choose. What legends could there possibly be about Stalybridge?
"Its the serial killer capital of the world" suggested a friend. The moors. The infamous Dr Shipman. The mystery at Gorse hall. Not a great thing to think about when walking along a dark, secluded lane!
Anyway, I reached the gate. The other side of the gate the lane continues around a bend. Then you had to pass the derelict building that we believed to be haunted when we were kids. The street lamp was out. It was pitch black. Should I go on?
This shot is the other side of the gate. The lights on the other side looked welcoming, Of course I turned back!
