Everything is Rosy

The name ROSE can be rearranged to spell Eros, the god of love.Mythology says that roses grew thorns when Cupid accidentally shot an arrow into a rose garden.
The rose has been a favourite flower of poets since poetry began. Maybe it's because like a poem, a rose can say so much without saying much at all.White roses represent purity and true love

"But I send you a cream-white rosebud
With a flush on its petal tips,
For the love that is present and sweetest
Has a kiss of desire on the lips."
John Boyle O'Reilly

This is one of a dozen roses my husband brought home for me some ten days ago. They look as fresh today as they did on that day.The florist let us into his secret for keeping them perky.Want to know?Place a copper coin( two pence piece in this case) in the water.I have to add that the water has not been changed in all that time and remains crystal clear, the leaves are still lush and glossy, and the blooms?Well, see for yourselves.
*White roses can also stand for unity

* a bouquet of withered white roses suggests that beauty is transitory, or someone has failed to make a good impression.
*The Romans planted a white rose-bush on the burial sites of young women to symbolize their purity.
*Roses are valued for their romantic symbolism but their blooms are also edible. No, they don't taste like chicken.I'm led to believe they taste rather like the flavour of green apples and strawberries.
*The rose family also includes pears, apples, cherries, plums, peaches, apricots, and almonds.
*Rose hips contain more Vitamin C than any other fruit or vegetable.
*A fossilized rose - over 35 million years old - was found in Colorado.
*The oldest rose in the world has flourished for over 1,000 years on the wall of Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany.
*There are more than 15,000 different types of rose species and cultivated varieties worldwide.
*A nursery will name a rose after you for a very large fee.
