West Linton Graveyard

This is probably the most impressive table stone grave in West Linton Graveyard. There is just about still some text visible on one of the sides but it can no longer be read. However according to Sheila A. Scott's book Peeblesshire Monumental Inscriptions - pree 1855, this table stone grave dates from the late 17th or early 18th Century, and shows the effigies of two men in arm, in comtemporary costome, between them the Tree of Trial with serpent (only barely visible now). They are John and Richard Alexander, sons of James Alexander, tenant Ingraston.
At the botton are a coffin (symbol of mortality) and 2 skulls. It must have been something to see in it's full glory but even today it's an amazing sight
