Memorial of the Golani Brigade

On a mountain ridge west of the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) is a memorial to the soldiers of the Golani Brigade. It was designed by my wife's brother-in-law (Joseph Assa).

In this photo young Alex is sitting in the mouth of a stylized bunker, emerging into the daylight, and looking out onto an olive tree placed here to symbolize peace.

In his youthful immaturity, Alex still sees war as a make-believe game to be played in the backyard with imaginary enemies, plastic machine guns and toy bombs. I can only pray he never has to really experience it.
