The cloud forest

Our days have been starting regularly at about 0600. Tidy the tent before being served coca tea with a bowl of hot water for washing at 0630. Then breakfast at 0700 - normally something egg derived - before heading out at about 0730.

Today's trek described as undulating took us from 3600m down to 3200m but was the longest in distance with about 15km covered. It was also as promised the most beautiful to date.

We arrived at the camp at the Machu Pichu control gate at about 1730 when our guide suggested we dump our bags and take another 10 min hike to this beautiful Inca site. After a long and hard few days hike, the Rainbow temple was beautiful. After the guide had given us the lowdown on the site, Amy and I just sat for a while soaking up the atmosphere and the peace and quiet.

In camp the porters had baked a cake and presented us with it after dinner. They had taken some info from the guide and kindly announced on top of it in pink icing "Feliz Huny Moon" - Amy and I were very touched.

Early to bed again as an extra early start in the morning. 0300 wake up to leave camp at 0400 to hike to the sun gate for sunrise. Let's hope it's worth it!
