At the top of the world!

...well, Britain, at least.

We made it to a. the most northerly town in Britain (if you haven't been there, I wouldn't worry about breaking an arm and a leg to get there), and b. the most northerly point. Here I am, standing right on the edge of Britain (the mainland, anyway). We could just make out Orkney in the distance, but as you can see, the weather wasn't great - it was rainy and windy (I think that pretty much sums up the whole road trip), so visibility wasn't great.

It was lovely to drive around up there and see some of the amazing landscapes; however, I just can't get over just how remote it is up there! It took us over 5 hours to get from Wick to Ullapool - 130 miles away - thanks to the single track roads and occasional downpour of rain. It was incredible to see a landscape that just looked so "alien"; it was like another world! I mean, even the early settlers knew there was just no point even trying to make something out of nothing!

The cherry on top of a wonderful weekend may be a speeding ticket... yep, that's right - after driving for 3 1/2 days straight (Jon did some of the driving up north), I was feeling rather tired and found it hard to concentrate. Horribly unsafe, I know, but I wasn't focused on a lot but the road ahead of me. I'd been going slower than the speed limit for almost all the trip, but I must've just absent-mindedly put my foot down a little too much... and was doing 70mph in a 60mph zone. And happened to go past a speed camera during my little lapse. Whoops..... Nervously checking the mail everyday, just in case there's a little 'surprise' from Avis....
