I tried a version of this on the day when I eventually gave up and posted one using beard-hairs instead. My tripod's broken leg doesn't allow it to get high enough to be able to do this with a nice low ISO and weeny aperture so it had to be done with the two remaining full-height legs in pretend-monopod mode, which probably results in too much movement in planes in which the lens-based VR is unable to correct.
