Cold and frosty morning

Somehow when I read the forecast that we were to have several days of clear nights, no wind and dropping temperatures, I forgot that that would mean fog round here. It arrived this morning. Here's a view through the trees out of the side of our garden. I spent about half an hour out there, taking photos of small frosted leaves, spiders webs and the like, but in the end this unexpectedly spooky shot won. Monkeyed about with it for a while, but in the end just like this slightly cropped one. The sun that you can see creeping above the horizon finally burned off the fog in the early afternoon and brought some welcome warmth.

The cold kept me out of the garden today, but there was plenty to keep me busy inside. The morning slipped by in a blur of, well I'm not sure what really. I did a spot of ironing, made Conor's second birthday cake, and suddenly it was lunch time. A bit of DIY shopping in the afternoon (and finally a definitive statement from someone that we cannot get a hose and regulator in France to fit a French propane tank to our UK space heater. So much for EU standardisation...)

Conor has enjoyed his birthday I think (jeesh, seven already) and the cake he took to school was much praised, with all the kids telling their mums about it when they came out. It's been quite a day for recipe requests - now I just have to figure out if I can translate them adequately into French...
