New Years Eve in Maryport. Loved the aquarium and particularly the expression in this chap's face - assuming he is male of course. No idea what kind if fish he is but don't think he was impressed at being snapped!
Had a quick tour of Maryport in the persistent rain but managed to find a nice coffee shop. It is like going back in time here but I love this kind of place. It isn't trying to be anything other than what it is - and the locals are lovely. I love coastal villages but hate throngs of tourists and all the tourist trap stuff. You get the sea, sand, fishing boats and beautiful sunsets here just the same - but much more peaceful. There are few B&Bs here as even the locals will tell you that no-one wants to visit! But slowly they are improving the town and the marina and harbour are beautiful.
You won't find trendy cafes, posh restaurants or amusements here. There is nowhere with Wi-fi or any 3G. But you will find a welcoming town with locals who will spend plenty of their time of day with you if you wish. My relatives all come from Cumbria and laugh at us 'Townies' with our modern ways! They would not have their lives any other way - and I really don't blame them.
