Susan

A year ago I applied for home care so I could haver a few hours a week to spend with my other children (notably cricket or soccer on Saturdays). Susan was sent to me, and she had made an enormous difference to the quality of my life. She has four grown up children, has been a foster carer, and has worked for Bernado's. she was born in Lebanon and migrated here 40 years ago. She takes Liam in her stride, accepts him for what he is and seems to genuinely enjoy spending time with him. Carers are woefully underpaid but in Victoria, last year, won a ruling which stated they were mainly underpaid because they are women, and hence sucessfully sued under the sex discrimination laws. They will see improvements to their award but it is important that this money is funded by government otherwise the carer organisations will cust cut services inorder to pay higher wages. I am very fortunate to have Susan who is so skilled in dealing with children with special needs. Not only does she look after him but usually prepares food for the evening! This is a photo of her making tabouleh, with herbs grown in her garden. I won't be able to buy Tabouleh from the shops againas it is so inferior to that freshly made. A big thank you to Susan and all the other carers out there.
