Cold weather, Cold People
It was freezing. The cold air hit my face and it was as if I was awoken. My teacher for Alexander technique, (if you are unaware of the technique, google it. You're life will never be the same) told us that majority of time, you are not awake. Yes, we are physically walking around, and enduring our day, but we are not actually mentally aware of our surroundings. We do not take the time to notice people, nature, beauty in its most simplest states or beauty where we never thought we could find it.
When the air hit my face, I knew my day had started, and I began to realize that the mood of the day was particularly off and I was right. My classes were deep in thought yet I found myself so lost in it, I wasn't able to put it into words. So in a sense, I was so awake, I ended up falling asleep. Weird, huh? I guess it's true that too much of a good thing is bad for you.
After my usual Wednesday classes (Acting, Technique, Stage Combat, and Living Masterpieces) I walked back to the dorm. However, I decided to intentionally observe the NYC population. I took note of the fashion, the behaviors and even the language of their speech and body. While doing so, a rushed man in front of me, dropped money out of his pocket. Six dollars to be exact.
I tried to reach forward to give it back but he was in such a hurry, I couldn't return it.
Now, there is no argument here. I know that everything happens for a reason. My first instinct was to donate it to charity but there were no collectors around. So I now I have six dollars in my pocket. Is this a test? What am I supposed to do? Should I have left it? Should I still hold on to it...
Whatever the answer maybe, I hope it's a lesson to be learned.
