Jumbo Calculator

Even though it is reporting a zero, this was not a zero day. Crunching some end-of-the-year numbers was so much easier on my iPad (with the keypad included in the cover) than using my iPhone. Today was just the beginning of the crunching, but it had to be done.

This is a first generation iPad and I'm still not convinced that it was the best device for me. A few short months later the MacBook Air was launched and had I known, I'm pretty sure that I would have waited and would have given-up several hundred more dollars to have purchased it. The iPad is convenient to take to bed . . . I can sit-up against the headboard and do email, FaceBook, and browse through Blipfoto; it is a tablet, not a laptop. I can't use it to grade student papers, as I do on my laptop.

However, 2011 was the year that I purchased my MacBook Pro. For that I am very thankful. I'm still very much on the learning curve, and I hope to do lots more learning between now and when I return to the classroom on February 13th. I also plan to never pull away completely from my non-Mac laptop. I need to know how to use both, mainly because I have students who are not Mac users.

But today I am simply crunching numbers and quite thankful for my jumbo calculator on my iPad. I really thought today I was going to write about how much I hated math as a re-entry college student; I don't have much fondness for math now, but that's a story for some other day.

Good night from Southern California.
