Mud, mud, glorious!
The mud around Fen Drayton RSPB reserve turned our boots into snow shoes. Or it felt like it, so thickly was is caked around our soles. Interestingly, the muddiest sections were those surrounded by bushes. Normally I'd suggest that this was where people were forece to walk the same line, so churning up the ground more acutely. Here, however, the whole walk was atop a bund - that logic doesn't stand. Does anyone have any ideas why that should be the case?!
Although it was nice to get out and about, the weather forecasters' promised sun was not forthcoming. I'd forgotten how biting the wind can be as it whistles across the flat lands of the fens. Still, it was nothing a mug of coffee couldn't fix after the short drive back to my parents' home...
