the holy family
these guys make an annual appearance in our living room at this time of year. They date from the days of belief in both the metaphysical and in handicrafts and are displayed in shock and awe of the fact that I used to make things other than heaps of paperwork.
The guy posing as Joseph (holy not quite father) is actually a shepherd. There used to be a whole crib scene but Joe's head fell off...or maybe it was his beard, but anyway, he looked crap and this guy had lost his sheep and needed a new partner (he's Welsh, I think). It was a marriage of convenience really but Mary and Head-Shepherd have been going strong for a few years now. And they don't mind at all that their baby looks a bit like a sausage.
I'm totally with Mary on this one - if your bloke loses his head or beard, get a new one. And who could resist a shepherd wearing a blanket? Mr. Spitzi will have to look out. He currently has both head and beard but, as he's in the supermarket right now, there's a good chance he might lose both and I might just run off with a sheep fancier. And a sausage.
And the moral of the tale is: don't expect sense when gin season is in full swing.
