Field of Gold

Woke this morning feeling a lot better...

Just as well as today we had a road trip planned. An hour and half south of Dunedin, the banks of the mighty Clutha River are inhabited by the good folk of Balclutha.

One of my nieces lives there, with her partner and first born, and celebrated her 20th birthday this day. Partner working so Mother and I went down to spoil her with lunch and presents. It is tough having a birthday so close to Christmas and this niece has always had a bit of a rushed deal each year.

Mother and I arrived bearing gifts and fresh produce for sandwich making and a few wee treats - fresh strawberries, cherries, Brie cheese, kiwifruit juice - and enjoyed a few hours catching up and chatting. Then home again...

This image taken on the way down to Balclutha. The yellow of the rapeseed is so vibrant it takes your breath away and tricks you into seeing the hills as blue and the sky as turquoise. A visual feast...

Enjoy...two days to Christmas and I still have too much to do!!
