COLD TURKEY

The empty boxes outside the butcher's shop this evening; the butchers busy behind the glass, titivating their turkeys for the big day. I felt slightly better for the turkeys in that we are having a chicken for Christmas dinner. There are only two of us plus the cat, and he will probably eat as much as we do. Or more. But we are having the little sausages and bacon rolls too so we feel part of the festive season.

I see the lights and the trees and the baubles and do wonder at this time of year what my life would have been like with grown children; and perhaps my own grandchildren. Maybe it's no wonder I dislike Christmas; it's a defensive thing.

But best not to dwell on that.

I wish I'd noticed that bicycle before .... might have made a good blip in itself.
