After a sleep in the comfiest hotel bed in the world we were up and off to the diner next door to the hotel for a lovely (but HUGE) American breakfast.
Stuffed to bursting we went down and got the Cable car up to Fishermans Wharf. Wandered round Ghirardelli Square then decided to hire bikes and cycle over the Golden Gate Bridge.
Which, despite the heat seemed like a great idea - if only we'd known about the hills on the way there!
Cycled past the marina to Fort Point (where Kim Novak takes a dip in 'Vertigo') then up a very very very steep hill to the bridge. We only went half way over as it was impossibly busy but got fantastic views of the bay and of SF itself.
After a hot (and much quicker) cycle back down we went for lunch then walked up another huge hill (I have calves of steel now believe me!) to see Lombard Street, the famous wiggly street.
Onto Washington Square next, then the last hill of the day up to Coit Tower where, after taking the very civilised lift up to the top, we got a brilliant view of the whole city.
After dinner we wandered to Union Square which has been 'graced' with this - each to their own and all that but I prefer my shops without a twenty foot high pic of David Beckham's bits and bobs thanks very much!
