Canals were a lifeline for Manchester. Today they are precious for other reasons - relaxing exploration of a frenetic city, wildlife corridors through dense urbanity, quiet routes between noise and exuberance. This morning, despite colourful evidence of last night's parties, empty, occasional trams and trains disrupting a Winter calm.
