Meet Cilla White!
Today was the Advent activity morning in school for the pre-school and Reception children. I dressed up to look like an ancient shepherd, (not too difficult, the ancient bit anyway) and told the story of the shepherds on the hillside. You know the rest. I had a puppet sheep and he behaved very well though I don't think the children were fooled for one moment! There was a crawl in crib and Mike had made a wooden fire so we could sit around and sing 'Warming our toes'. He made a collection of little wooden sheep on sticks for the children to carry later on.
Shortly afterwards one of the older children came in with a real sheep, Cilla, a 9 month old lamb. Her 'handler' comes from a farming family and he absolutely knows what he wants as a career!
Living in a rural community and surrounded by sheep farms, the children here have a good understanding of shepherding. They were totally accepting that Cilla made a few deposits on the hall floor. I dread to think what a hall full of town children would have made of that!
