Kuirau Park, Rotorua

Danger Thermal Area! Just a stroll through a normal looking park, only every so often steam rises from the ground or you find great pools of bubbling mud. Being close to the centre of New Zealand's Geothermal landscape, you can smell Rotorua before you arrive in the town. The distinct smell of sulphur is hard to miss and even harder to become accustomed to!

After a walk through the park we had one of our more bizzare travelling experiences. Deciding to try a mud bath we headed to a 'health spa' which turned out to be a part of a private hospital. The mud bath experience had an Eastern bloc austerity feel to it but left our skin soft and gave us something to giggle about.
