One year on and all systems go!
This is a pump installed a year ago in Katete, Zambia.
The pic shows Chris, who looked after the installation of sixty pumps at that time, with Daniel from Lifeline in Zambia.
They were passing on their way from Mzuzu and took the pic.
Daniel writes:
Dear John,
Thanks again for the insipring time together in Malawi.
Please find attached the picture of the 19 meter well in Katete that Chris was talking about.
It was in very good shape.
Just to let you know, I sent back a letter with Duncan with the change from the money you gave us.Thanks!
Wonder if he managed to find a car in Lilongwe.
All the best,
Daniel
Lifeline
They also told me that the pump has over 500 daily users.
Sometimes I forget what an amazing pump it is. The depth of 19 metres IS amazing.
The fact that is has worked for a year with no maintenance is amazing.
The fact that the village women have been trained to fix the minor issues that might occur. Real village level maintainable, using three nails now is truly A+++++.
And the fact that it just goes and goes is amazing.
The fact that it costs about 30 pounds is amazing.
The fact that we are just now replacing 34 out of 35 pumps in a group of villages in the Doroba area is a sad reflection on other pumps, costing hundreds and thousands. That's not amazing, just Africa.
Thanks to Richard Cansdale for his years of work
