Wicked and Serene

This plaque, designed by John Duncan (at the top of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh), is sited near the place where many witches were burned at the stake. The wicked and serene heads indicate that there were witches who worked for evil and good. The serpent and foxglove are symbolic too of the dual nature of many things.
