Blue swallow
It was a day of birds. F and I headed out to Chippaquiddick Island reserve. We walked along the long sand, hopping out of the way of a motorised beach buggy every so often (they should ban motors on beaches!) We reckon the buggy was ferrying fishermen to and from the best fishing spot in the US, which we passed without realising it was so important. My uncle's going to have kittens when he realises that, yet again, I've passed such an important fishing spot without a rod.
F and I were more interested in the ospreys and blue swallows. There were very noisy towhee birds rummaging around in the underground - they sound like large mammals having a leaf fight, but they are the size of sparrows. I was really chuffed to catch a blue sparrow at a standstill!
We headed back to the mainland and camped out at Shawnee State Forest for the night. It was very quiet at the campsite - we're well out of season!
