In Between Days

Newel

I thought I knew but when I started writing this I realised I didn't know what the big post at the bottom if the stairs was called. Quick Internet search reveals this to be the newel post or a newel post. So this top bit is either a newel cap or a finial. I'm not too sure on that one, maybe it's both. Apparently in some old houses the newel post is hollow and the house plans are put inside it before it is capped. I feel like saying that you learn something new everyday!

Something I didn't learn today was that DIY is boring. I knew it already. I did get some fresh air by cycling to the car which was left in Darrington last night. Picked the kids up on the way back. I had to have a few words with Louis about leaving Alana out of him and his cousin's play. It's funny how boys gravitate towards each other and play boy things even though there are years between them in age. Their cousin, who also slept over, is the same age as Alana and it was always them that played together and Louis was the one left out. When I picked them up Alana was doing embroidery with Grandma and the boys were killing each other with guns they had made out of k-nex.
