Royal Hall

Bit more local history. A grade II listed building originally opened in 1903 as the Kursaal, a German word translated as "Cure Hall" which were popular in continental spa towns. Here it was originally used for grand receptions and special occasions.

In 2008, after being closed for some years and a massive refurbishment it was restored to its' former glory, providing a splendid venue for concerts and receptions.

Interestingly at the start of WW1 the original name was covered up and changed to 'The Royal Hall'. In large you will be able to see the original name`Kursall' in the stonework under the Royal Hall sign. Apparently it is the only surviving Kursall in Britain.
