Gladdon in fruit
The official name is the Stinking Iris but the old name seems kinder and is said to derive from Gladiolus which is a member of the same family and has Iris-like leaves.
The attractive red berries were already starting to fall and scattered the ground. Seen at the Beechwood Nature Reserve, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. Not being too pedantic as there is a Cambridge, Gloucestershire which is near Slimbridge of wildfowl fame and not far from the places of origin of some of my ancestors.
