Smokebush leaves

In the garden these leaves are still on the plant whereas most of the other trees and shrubs have lost their leaves. The autumn changes bring an interesting patterned effect to some of the leaves. It is a major feature of the karst vegetation around Trieste where it can be seen flowering in June (the "smoke").
