Let it snow
Localised overnight snow, followed by a sharp frost this morning created superb conditions and an early start to the ski season. I was out there straight away, skis sharpened and waxed - Fantastic!!
Yesterday evening, Sugar Daddy and I had a superb time at the Cavalry and Guards Club, 127 Piccadilly London.
Wow, talk about location, location, location.
The reception area has a magnificent chequerboard stone floor, leading to a huge staircase with wrought iron banisters. Throughout the building there are historical military portraits, artefacts and stunning silverware.
The show stopper for me was the vast painting by John Charles Dollman Titled 'A Very Gallant Gentleman' depicting Captain L.E.G. Oates of the Inniskilling Dragoons.
Inscribed "Who willingly walked to his death in a blizzard to try and save his comrades beset by hardship."
It depicts Captain Oates hunched against the wind walking away from the camp which can just be seen in the background.
It was nothing like that at the indoor ski slope at Hemel Hempstead where I met a friend for coffee this morning.
