On the fourth day of Christmas.....
"On the fourth day of Christmas, my line manager gave to me.....four ways of contact. Three dodgy taches, two fantasy makers and a presentation in a systems tree."
Can you guess that I've been on a management course today? Lol! It focussed on 'Effective Communication' so hence the four ways of contact, and they are: what we do, how we look, what we say, and how we say it. As usual the day was a mix of learning and practicing, although one of the practice workshops got a bit emotional today, and I think the trainer has taken on board the feedback that it will needed to be changed for future workshops.
Did you know that when you are delivering a communication which requires action, people take in 55% of how it is said due to your body language, 38% of how it is said due to the tone of your voice, emphasis and language used, leaving only 7% of what is actually said. Think of the great speakers and how they've delivered their speeches, you'll notice how body language, tone etc plays a part. To demonstrate it we watched a clip of Martin Luther King delivering his famous "I have a dream" speech, very powerful.
So the twelve days of Christmas now take a rest as I look forward to a long, long weekend. Rest and Christmas shopping ahead. Whohoo!!!
The twelve days will return next Tuesday.
