And Now for Something Completely Different
No food in sight!
Just an extraordinarily beautiful afternoon with P and Miss Annie at Zuanich Point Park, six miles from our house, overlooking Squalicum Harbor on the north shores of Bellingham Bay. It's a lovely place to catch late autumn sun, with views of Mt. Baker and several Cascade Mountain peaks, as well as Lummi Island and the San Juan Islands.
In fact, it was so beautiful today that I had two runners-up for today's blip! I'd be interested to know if you think one of them would have been the better choice.
This tree also caught my eye, and I offer it as my contribution to National Tree Week, following the example of tempus fugit today (Nov. 28).
Squalicum Harbor is the home port for more than 1,400 commercial and pleasure boats, and a lovely setting for Zuanich Point Park's paved walkways, children's play area, and Squalicum Boathouse, a popular community rental facility for weddings and other events.
"Safe Return," the Fishermen's Memorial seen in my blip and in more detail here, was dedicated in 1999. It's very moving to read the names of those lost at sea and see the tributes left to them.
Adjacent to Zuanich Point Park is the 68-room Hotel Bellwether, with a particularly appealing Lighthouse Suite. You can see the hotel and the Lighthouse Suite's 360-degree observation deck here, along with other park photos and views of Mt. Baker, our iconic local mountain -- a 10,781 feet/3,286 meters active volcano in the North Cascades range, with an average annual snowfall of 641 inches/1,628 cm!
For those who relish the educational aspects of blipping, here are a couple of useful maps and other information. If you'd rather see another blipper's take on today's adventure, check out Pilipo's. We really enjoyed our afternoon!
