Soldier Poppy - Ladybird Poppy
These have appeared in my garden from somewhere else - maybe they came with the liquefaction as they are growing in a bed that was covered - who knows.
These seem to be either papaver somniferum (ladybird) or papaver commutatum also called Flanders poppy, on which our commemorative poppy is based. The poppy for Anzac Day doesn't have the black spots - my grandmother used to say those were for the soldiers that died.
I think it doesn't hurt to be reminded of the sacrifice made at any time of the year.
