Ladies a plate

In NZ one thing that new immigrants had (have?) trouble with is an invitation that specifies "Ladies a plate". It just means that supper/afternoon tea/etc is not provided and you take a plate of food to share with everyone.

Tonight I won't be able to comment as I'll be at a social evening, which as a committee member I am "taking a plate".

Strawberries, pineapple, and red grapes - something fresh and healthy, and very easy to eat.

Nowadays, men often take a plate too!
