Furniture depository
Every few months I meet my former boss for a walk and chat. He usually comes down to Sussex and we walk on the South Downs but this time we decided to meet in London and to walk the route of the University Boat Race from Putney Bridge through Chiswick and back via Barnes. It proved to be a splendid walk, punctuated by some interesting buildings, including Richard Rogers' architectural practice offices, Riverside Studios, the former home of William Morris and St Nicholas' Church where we found the tombs of William Hogarth and J.M. Whistler. At one point, just beyond Craven Cottage, we were opposite The former Harrod's Furniture Depository which opened in 1894 but is now converted into luxury flats.
