Cows with Belts

Years ago..on our Main Street..a eccentric millionaire had a rather large multi-columned house with a 5 car garage. The rumor was that there was a 2 lane bowling alley in the basement. A local church bought the property, razed the house, and the big lot now has a good-sized community garden. I pull into the driveway a lot, because there are usually deer in the small field. 4-5 of them. Nothing today..probably too early, or they are hearing too many gunshots.

But, the cows across the street were out. I parked my car, and crossed the street. They didn't like me there, and watched me with a wary eye. I had to look them up on Google..to see what they are.

They are called Belted Galloways..Belties for short. They originated in the Galloway region of Ireland, and have been in the states since the early 1950's. They are known for their finely marbled beef, though some are milked, too. (Writing this makes me feel like Farmer Green Jeans.)

You will never guess what some of their nicknames are. Here's your answer. "Police Car Cows." "Panda Cows." And finally.."Oreo Cows."

An odd looking cow..but somehow pretty.
