Two, a magic number, a prime number, an even number, a number that divides equally, a number which balances,produces symmetry, the basis of the binary system and everything to do with computing.
A deuce, dual, couple, brace, a duo or a pair, ...
TWO: There are two sides to an argument and two sides to a piece of paper. Two-dimensional means that something has just length and width, but no depth.Traffic flows in two directions and birds and planes need two wings to fly.There are two sexes .Two's company, three's a crowd .We say people are two faced.People have two hands,( and so do most clocks.)two eyes, two ears, two arms, two legs, two feet, two boobs and the list goes on.
PAIRS: So many items of clothing come in pairs: a pair of gloves, pair of tights, socks, pair of trousers, shoes,and a pair of ear rings.There are two blades on a pair of scissors. We need a pair of bookends and a pair of speakers is required for stereo sound.A pair of spectacles help those of us struggling to see.We need two to make a pair of dice.
BI: Bi- means two. For example, a bicycle has two wheels, a bi plane two wings on either side. Bi polar describes the two sides of someone's character and bi focal glasses allow us to see the world more clearly. A bigamist has two husbands or two wives.
DOUBLES:Double barrelled, double crossed , double jeapardy, double your money, double edged,double meaning,double trouble --- which leads me onto the fact that we are blessed enough to have a set of twins,(I choose my words carefully here, as you cannot have two twins, )two babies for the price of one,two peas in a pod!
So, why not have a deliciously, dastardley,doggie duo ??They are so different, - big and small , black and white , two - - - - ahhhh but must stop there, as I am now entering into the realms of opposites! Let's just say, they are best friends, partners in crime and playmates together !!
