Billy Goat
I took a good many autumnal shots on the way home from giving a talk in the city. Here is Rittenhouse Square Park as rain was threatening. The goat is getting some rare time off. In good weather this spot would be filled with human figures, as the kids love him.
"Billy" by Albert Laessle (1877-1954) was cast in 1914. It is one of the best known and most popular bronzes in Philadelphia. People just call him "the goat." Once someone stole him and there was such a huge alarm that whoever it was decided to abandon the project. Billy was found in some bushes.
I chose this out of many good images because I like the symmetry and, of course, the colors.
I also enjoyed riding past all the fountains that have been shut off and a few ponds from which the fishes have been taken away till Spring. This has been a full and productive day.
