Large hairy wasp

There were still a few wasps around on the ivy flowers at lunchtime. This one seemed larger than a normal wasp and had very long antennae. It spent a long time feeding on the flowers. I only realised how hairy it was when I looked at the photos at home. Not sure if it might be a Vespula germanica (German wasp)?
